"A Rose for a Lady"

18" x 24" Oil on Masonite Panel

I talked with a man who was a Packer and Guide who once had hired a fellow to work for him as a Horse Wrangler and also to be his General Right Hand Man.  The fellow was a real good hand. He was real good with horses.  He was even better with the women clientele.  Yes, he surely did love the ladies.  As we talked he let slip that he remembered this same wrangler leading a string up a mountain trail and picking wild roses and sticking them in his hat band.  When he got to camp, he would give them to one of the ladies who had caught his eye.  It was a sweet gesture and one that could get him into trouble and eventually did, though I am not going to tell the whole story here.  Anyway, I thought of this Wrangler Romeo when I designed and painted this oil.
