"And There We Was"

18" x 24" Oil on Canvas

This painting is one of the first I produced after our move to Obsidian, near Stanley, Idaho, almost 50 years ago.  It was an idea I got after talking to some of the packers in the area who all frequented the same place for coffee each morning and I thought I would try my idea of what it might look like.  At one time, the Sawtooth area was home to Grizzlies.  They were eventually hunted out but many Old Timers could remember either seeing or encountering them.  It's not something you easily forget.  There are plenty of Black Bears around and they can be scary enough (we had one at the back of our house once) but the Grizzly is quite another matter.
