Near Fort Walsh in Saskatchewan Provence of Canada, there is a replica of the old Trading Post built by Abe Farwell in the Cypress Hills around the early summer of 1872.  The outpost was intended to be a Whiskey Post but also traded in other wares as well.  Farwell's Trading Post and another nearby trading post across the creek were burned to the ground in the Summer of 1873 in what I imagine was "collateral damage" as a result of the Cypress Hills Massacre.  The whiskey trade was not popular with the RCMP nor the authorities in the USA but the Great West of both nations was so remote and primitive that regulation and suppression of the trade was difficult to say at the very least.  The 1967 RCMP did a remarkable and marvelous job of constructing the replica as their contribution to the Centennial project.  It is like experiencing the Post in the 1872 and 1873's.  If you have a chance, it is certainly worth the visit and spending time.
