"Here Rolled the Wagons"
12" X 24" Oil on Linen
The old Oregon Trail entered present day Idaho from the Southern side of the Snake River. Much of the Snake River Plains was dry with barren sagebrush covered "wasteland" that at the time was considered worthless for farming. Some of the Old Trail is still in evidence thru this "worthless" region. A region that is now rich farmland due to the diversion of water around the end of the 1800's and the turn of the 20th century by a canal system, taking water from the Snake River further upstream and bringing it to the "Magic Valley." In the background are the South Hills with Mount Harrison and Mount Independence. |
