"In the Clearing"

Indian

Mountain Man

Each is 5" x 7" Gouache on Illustration Board

This is a set of small Gouache paintings representing two cultures that shared the Fur Trade era and the Western habitat of the wily beaver for a little while.  Despite coming from civilizations that were widely disparate, they still had a good deal in common.  The Native American people learned of  new things from the Mountain Men and the latter learned a few old but valuable things from the former.  They represented, in the short time they met, the changes in the world that was coming.
