When you are your own boss and you are riding on a fine late-spring day through the Rocky Mountains on a good horse, there is a certain degree of freedom that excites your blood and bones.  These two trappers are on the search for productive water.  There is a lot of ground to cover.  A person had just as well enjoy it while they can.  Because, fer sure, things will get rotten soon enough.
