"Love Song"

6" x 12" Oil on Linen

A young man smitten by a young woman was guided by several cultural guidelines.  There were many things he could not do if he wished to win the ladies affection - to many to list here.  One of the things he could do  was to sit just away from her parents lodge within ear shot and play his plaintive love song on a wooden flute, usually of his own making.  The ears of his target knew immediately who it was and why and thus the flowering of love.  Not a whole lot different in essence than everywhere else in the world.
