"Redfish Morning"

20" x 40" Oil on Linen

Redfish Lake is the largest lake in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area located about 60 miles North of Ketchum/Sun Valley.  It derived it's name from the bright red color taken on by the returning Sockeye Salmon that used to return from the Pacific Ocean to spawn in great numbers.  The Idaho Fish and Game Dept. and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are working together to keep a viable run returning each year.  I spent a lot of early mornings at Redfish, waiting, watching, and listening to the breaking of a new day.

It is indescribably still and quiet most mornings. Two deer come to the lake shore to catch a drink.  The sound of water lapping against the shore and a slight breeze in the forest is soothing and almost imperceptible.  This surely is some of the best.
