"Returning Scouts"
12" x 16" Oil on Linen
I'm sorry but it makes me cold just looking at this painting. I usually painted the winter scenes during the warm days of summer. My studio was upstairs and pretty warm during the summer and I would open all the windows and outside door to keep it nice. The studio door going up the stairs was usually closed off during the winter evenings to keep heat in the main house. If it was 30 below outside next morning, my studio would have a temperature of about 32-40 degrees. I had a cast iron stove from the waiting room of an old train depot. I started that and in about an hour or so it would be warm enough to work. By early afternoon the stove was not needed as plenty of warm air came up from below. In the winter I preferred painting summer scenes. |
