"Sixteen Winters"

16" x 20" Oil on Linen

Duties of manhood in the Warrior Culture started early in Native American societies.  This young man, barely sixteen winters of age has already represented his people on the field of battle.  On this chilly fall day, he is tasked with keeping an eye on the horses grazing among the willows in a high country hunting camp. This important duty was all the more needed because in a few more days, the people will be heading for the wintering ground in the valleys to the South as the season of deep snows approaches.
