The Monument Valley is sacred land for the Dine' and an important part of the traditional Navajo homeland.  The colors and shapes, as well as the legacy are national treasures for all Americans who marvel at this splendor.  Older Americans who have never ventured into the Southwest may still recognize the scenery as the back drop for many John Ford Western movies.  All who see it and experience the raw beauty agree that "breathtaking" is certainly an understatement.
