"Watching the Backtrail"

10" x 8" Gouache on Illustration Board

Survival was perilous in the "Old West."  That is probably not so different as the world is today. Other people wanted your land and your property and would try to eradicate you and take your land and property if given the opportunity. This warrior travels far behind his people to watch for enemies who may be following to surprise a sleeping camp.  This was not wasted time!

This image is one of many I have done in the medium of Gouache.  For me, Painting with Gouache was like stacking sand and herding cats. It takes some time getting used to a new medium.  Takes a different approach.  Once that is accomplished you've opened up a new world of expression.
