"We Saw the Sundance Camp Before Us"

24" x 36" Oil on Linen

The Sundance was one of the most important religious events in the lives of many plains and intermountain tribes.  People traveled long distances to get to the location chosen for the ritual.  Besides the important religious elements, it was an opportunity for people to see and visit with friends and family whom they seldom got to see.  It must have been a wonderful sight to behold the encampment as it came into view after several days of rigorous travel.
