"Wheat Farming in the Horse Days"

12" x 24" Oil on Linen

Many areas in the Mid and Far West saw scenes such as this one from Eastern Oregon.  While this old mechanized combine was a wonderful innovation in harvesting grain, it was still hard work.  The man driving the team had to be able to see many things at once and to make very accurate estimates of time and space. These machines did not seem to be designed for a small 20 acre field of wheat with sharp turns.
