"Days of Summer"

20" x 40" Oil on Linen

This painting was done for some friends in Challis, Idaho.  It incorporates their son and daughter as well as their horse.

Summers in the alpine Sawtooth Mountain region is always a glorious season.  Most of the valleys and flat areas suitable for ranching or building are found above 6000 feet in elevation.  There are summer days that tip 90 degrees followed by mornings sometimes below freezing.  I have had the experience of seeing snow  during every month of the year, although never during the same year in my memory.  Yet the daily temperatures on the valley floor can be cool in the shade but sort of hot in sun.  Or what passes for hot up there.

It's just a matter of degrees, ain't it?
