I was once asked by a Southerner "where are your people?"  Meaning, "where is your family from?"  This trapper is a wise man.  He keeps peace in the family and the wife's family and insures his ability to work the territory without fear for his life.  Men - and women - all over the world have often married for the same purposes and, more often than not, for significantly less.
